Woman

The figure stands not upon a pedestal, but far below the multitude.

Its hard surface is not dressed in a long, majestic robe, or clad in a graceful dress.

In fact, it is scarcely covered at all.

It is not shapely or voluptuous. It is not solid. Rather,

It is narrow and delicate and malleable.

It is public property—an icon, a model, a figurine.

It is to be gazed upon, touched, idealized.

It does not think; it does not feel.

It is sculpted to perfection, for if there were a flaw or blemish,

The figure would have to be hidden away, ignored.

An idol cannot be deficient or inadequate or imperfect.
